Alpha Lambda Omega Hosts 17th Annual PEARL Awards Luncheon, Fashion Show

Charlotte, NC - The Alpha Lambda Omega Chapter saluted two members of the community at its 17th Annual Pursuit of Excellence in Achievement through Responsive Leadership (PEARL) Award Luncheon/Fashion Show on October 8, 2011.
Nearly 300 Sorors and community guests packed a Hilton Charlotte University Place ballroom to recognize award recipients who exemplify outstanding leadership, excellence and achievement. This year's theme was "Saluting Advocates Combating Global Poverty and Youth Volunteerism".
Soror Dawn M. Hand, a chapter member, is the 2011 PEARL Award recipient for her advocacy in combating global poverty. Soror Hand, an ordained Elder of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, is passionate about serving others. She has traveled the world as part of a medical missions team and provides outreach for those living in impoverished conditions and displaced because of natural disaster.
Miss Akilah Gordon received the Ivy Award for being an outstanding youth volunteer. Miss Gordon, a Harding University High School senior, spends countless hours sorting and stocking canned food items for the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Loaves and Fishes Pantry. She also volunteers at a local elementary school and is an active member of her church. Miss Gordon graciously accepted the award and promised to continue her pursuit to help those less fortunate.
The event, tweeted live, also included a showcase of furs, casual, business, and formal wear. Several guests won prizes from a ticket raffle, and lucky guests took home gift cards.
Soror Eddyce Hobson served as event chair and Soror Angela Lindsay served as co-chair.
